photo contest

A quick hello to show you my two submissions for a photo contest here in Vitoria. This is the famous Jone wearing the traditional dress worn by Basque folk dancers. Each region of Spain has their own traditional outfits, music, and dance. My favorite comes from Asturias where dancers dance to bagpipes. Something you wouldn´t normally associate with Spanish culture. OK, you´ve just learned your one new thing for the day...
You´re welcome. ;)

¡Dos besos!

I know you won't need it, but good luck my friend. In my eyes you already won! Keep us posted. xo

I am fascinated that so many countries still embrace traditional dress. I enjoy the "Dirdl" and "Lederhosen" that one sees in Germany and is often associated with Oktoberfest.

My only question is... what would be the traditional dress for America? Perhaps jeans and sweats? ; )

No, I would have never thought of bag pipes. I wonder who had them first Spain or Scotland. Didn't the Spanish go to Scotland?

I would be hard pressed to choose between the two. I love the rich reds in the first photo (and the reflections you've captured), but I also love the geometric patterns in the second! I'm with Joyce. First prize goes to you!

love them, esp the top one!

and wow, bagpipes in Spain, huh? made from goat bellies? or? Did they come up their own version, or adopt the Scottish ones? So curious now..

Keeping my fingers crossed for the contest.
I love the photos, especially the red skirt and its reflection in the side surface in the top photo.

The traditional clothes look beautiful. Black, red and white fit perfectly. Your daughter is almost as old as mine and they have similar thoughts. :)
I wish you luck for the contest.

Good luck, I love those photos.

I knew that about the bagpipes. It really annoys people when you tell them bagpipes are from Spain and not Scotland :D hee hee

an interesting conversation between tradition and modern- even the reflections!
and the second one, again you have captured the atmosphere- you clever lady!

you asked about my camera- it´s nikon E8800- i have had it 6-7years now, a friend in need is a friend indeed ;)
i guess there are much better cameras available, but we know each other quite well, camera and me- and that is a huge advantage... for me ;)

Brings back memories. My hubby and I took a Basque dance class while in San Sebastian. I don't remember any of the steps, but I remember the instructor saying "Bat, Bi, Iru, Lau" (don't remember how to spell those Basque words)
