corner view "coffee" vitoria, spain

This is where you can find me most mornings. The plaza is usually full with people and outdoor terraces, but unfortunately I took this early on a cloudy morning. I had the idea of taking pictures of all my favorite cafés´ views to show you. But between cooking a week´s worth of food, making sure everyone had clean underwear, and brushing up on my Dutch I didn´t have time. Come to think of it, maybe with a few more coffees I would have finished faster...

How do you say, "two coffees with milk" in your corner? Hey, it´s up there with "please," "thank you," and "toilet?" (Or in your dream vacation spot.) "Dos cafés con leche, por favor."
What are the most popular ways to drink coffee? "café con leche" (coffee with milk) "cortado" (espresso with a little milk) "solo" (espresso).
How do you take your coffee? With organic milk and honey.
French press, percolator, espresso, or other? Stovetop espresso.
Are you a dunker? Yup...
What was the funniest topic of conversation over a recent cup of coffee? Sara (my 15 year old daughter) had three boy friends over to help them wax their legs... no, they are not on the swim team..  yes, they wax more often than I ...

You can find more views here. Next week´s theme comes from Cele and is "cityscapes." Thanks Cele! Sophie would you mind going next? Have fun everyone! I´ll catch up with you all next week. Besos!

wow, you are on top of things! I have to ask, is it the style for boys to shave their legs in Spain?

I am posting this evening. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone else posts! This is so much fun.

thank you Jane!

oh god i did not follow directions - why does this not surprise me?

am i allowed to go back and edit?

dutch word: hacheschlaff (spelling, anyone?) it's chocolate sprinkles you put on buttered bread! might come in handy...

we had this really nerdy guy who was head of our junior year abroad program who used to say "note the curious juxtaposition between the old and the new." i don't know why, but i thought of those words when i saw your picture - not for the old / new thing, but for the color/ no color thing -

i'm running on 4 hours of sleep
night

boys waxing.
i just talked to a 20 something young girl yesterday who told me she has boy friends who does manicure and facials.
i was very pro equality in all that when i was in high school, but now that i see those changes actually happen, i'm not sure what i think of it anymore. and that again makes me feel old and judgemental, lol

We know every thing about your coffee trip now !!!
If I want to go to a café, I must take my car because there is no coffee near my house... Only when I go to my work in Marseille... This place seems to be quiet !

Allison said...

Hmmmm... I am curious to why you are brushing up on your Dutch? I've heard it is a difficult language, although from my standpoint, I'm not sure anything could be harder than learning German. Is is common for boys/men to wax their legs?

It's OK Jane,
I tell you quickly.

are you going to travel to the netherlands? if so, enjoy! - i haven't been far too long myself :)

like the idea of going out for a coffee everyday...
have a good week!

I am just going to imagine myself sitting drinking that coffee in the plaza....

when i was searching for coffee photos, i realized i always take a photo ONLY from the coffee, not the café. so even i have been where ever drinking coffee, there is only a photo of the cup. clever, eh?
i must say you have a very nice place for your morning coffee:)

قهوتين بالحليب is two coffees with milk.

People here drink sweet black coffee with cardamom.

My funniest conversation over a cup of coffee was in a restaurant where the waitress kindly poured me a cup of coffee. When a cockroach popped out of the spout into the cup, I drew her attention to it. She fished it out, threw it on the floor, and carried on pouring. What I said to her after that was quite funny, I can tell you. (Perhaps it was, "I don't dunk because I like a satisfying crunch.")

wow, do live in a house with one of those windows?! Beautiful square.

The boys waxing their legs, there must be more to that story. Why do they do that?
The coffee shop looks very relaxing.

Jeannette said...

Seee....that´s true friendship. A group wax session! Like the others I never heard of boys doing it (except swimmers).
Kim...it is hagelslag.
And Jane...most of the Dutch speak English.
Big hug, Jeannette

I've been following the corner view project for a few weeks now but never found the time or inspiration to participate. But when I saw this week's theme, I had to do it. So I did. I think this is a wonderful project. Love it!

woops! forgot the link to my page:

hmm, very intriguing. and somewhat disturbing... the boys waxing, that is. it's not that they are waxing (i went to the musical theatre studio at NYU, so i know that boys have been waxing for ages), it's well, the sheer number of them waxing is what threw me over. tell us more!

but, the coffee part sounds very good. love that you take yours with honey. i'm a huge fan of honey in anything.

Hi Jane, I have just posted a new photograph for the "coffee" corner view. Have a good day!

non-swimmers who wax. interesting !

Lisa said...

I've never tried honey with my coffee, different. I must try it, I love caramel in my coffee, honey isn't a far stretch.

I just got my coffee post up, late but it's there.

If I had a view like that I would certainly drink more coffee!

caitlin said...

I think I would have liked to have been present for that conversation. So funny.

Mmm and I love to dunk! In fact when I was in Spain I would get those croissants with chocolate in them.. chocolata de pain? Or something. And then I would get hot cocoa and dip it in. Yes, I am a chocoholic. Feel free to judge.

by the way... is there a coffe called "lágrima" in spain? Is hot milk with a drop of coffe on it... I like to have it on cafés... it sounds so poetic to ask for a "tear"...
