charanga

A charanga is a group of professional musicians that are hired by the local town halls to play at all the fiestas. Good to know my taxes are going to good use...

Thanks Lisa for this great idea! Next week´s theme is "staple foods." Caitlin, sweetheart, do you mind picking the next theme?

Thank you for all your sweet comments. I feel better already!

For more corner views check out the side bar!

I love that the town halls hire musicians for the fiestas...it does seem a good use of tax money :)

Cool musicians. We too have brass bands playing in the bandstand in the park in the summer (but I missed photographing them on Sunday so will post something else instead!)

Sounds like fun!
I can think of worse things my government can do with my taxes.

That's awesome! I love how in the last one he is holding a drink as big as his instrument.

I would love to pick a theme. I was thinking it would be interesting to do places of worship.. or places of reflection. A place you can go and just be. You know? Does that even make sense?

They really sing♬

Great post, Jane. I love to go to local fiestas and celebrations like this - one of the posts from last week showed a religious procession and it reminded me of when we stumbled on St. Anthony's Feast in the Little Italy section of Boston. The revelers there were accompanied the the marching band of the Sons of Italy. It was awesome - a real neighborhood celebration.

She would be thrilled if you visited.

BTW, thanks for the beautiful photo and the lollies for the girls. How cool that they came on Rainy's birthday and that Salvador designed the lolly wrappers. Thanks so much, the girls loved the.

Music is a great way for taxes to be spent I think. At least you get some enjoyment out of it. Although it must be hard to play with one had while holding that drink! I bet he still sounds better then me. How fun to have something like that, thanks for sharing.

Tax seems to go a lot further in Spain and used to keep the public happy, as Spanish fiestas do of course keep us all happy :o)

¡Oh,sí, charanga! I'm dancing! You are right! The uniforms(it's traffic police band) are nice; but the traffic in Rome it's chaotic!
(Maybe they are afraid to ruin their stylish uniform!lol

Hmmmm, taxes to pay for a band... oh, the things they do in Europe. But still yet, I am always thrilled to run into neat little traditional things like this.

How funny! Perhaps a better use of tax dollars than some of the things we use them on in the States? I'm with the others- what's up with the drink? So funny! Now, if that isn't Spanish, I don't know what else it! Always time for a little Sangria o vino!

I want to know what that guy is drinking, too...looks like Cherry or Raspberry Lambic Ale-or a giant glass of grape juice.

I think supporting local musicians is an awesome way to have your tax dollars spent!

Thanks Jane!
