pamplona

We stopped in Pamplona yesterday. San Fermín (running with the bulls, Hemingway) starts on Tuesday. It´s a week full of food, drinking, and bulls. This is Jorge´s fiesta. Every year he goes for a few days with a bunch of friends. I went one year with my girlfriends, and at three in the morning when I asked where we were sleeping, Jorge just started laughing. (He still loves telling that story...)... We ended up sleeping in our car and catching a bus back to our home the next day. Jorge got home three days later.... I´m going to meet him there on Thursday ... Lord help me....

1. A boarded up store on the street where the bulls run.
2. Love the bull in the window.
3. The bulls. (Look at the size of his head...)
4. Where Hemingway hung out.
5. I was hungry...

Whenever I see photos of Pamplona and contemplate the history, it seems unreal. But there they are!

Wow,I was at Pamplona last year and I really loved it,watching Estafeta and La curva de telefónica,I wake up every morning to watch the encierros with my dad when the time comes.

About being in The UK...I wish I had,I learnt on my own (English education at Spanish schools is awful),well, last year I took conversation classes with a native teacher (who has now become my dad's English teacher).Every year I ask my parents to go there but it's very expensive and I have lots of things to do every summer!

I'd really love to talk with your daughter,I thought she was younger!I think it'd be really nice,so if you want my e-mail or anything you just need to ask for it :)

Kisses :)

I've been to a bullfight only once. It was in Seville. I wasn't all that keen on the idea, but I have to admit it was quite an experience. I did cry at the end for the first fight though - so I was glad to have my sunglasses on.

And I had meant to say, I've never run with the bulls but... Sorry for the non sequitur!

When my husband turned forty, he and a few other birthday boys decided it would be awesome to mark the milestone by running with the bulls in Pamplona. I thought, given he had a wife and small children, that he should count his blessings here, up his insurance policy a great deal and have a great time. He did all three, got on the plane and had a ball, but later said he realized in the moment it may not have been prudent as he was watching other spectators get trampled. I concluded that while he and his friends were firing each other up yelling "We are running with the bulls", that the bulls were probably chanting amongst themselves, "We are running with the jackasses!" Glad he experienced something so different, and I get it, but was also very happy to receive a phone call from him that night and not a hospital!

Oh Pamplona! That is where I grew up so I am very familiar with San Fermin :-) But I feel I have had my share of fiestas, I don't really miss them anymore. As you say, its madness!

I think Pamplona looks so beautiful. I am determined to get there and see the bull racing. Has Jorge ever ran with them, or does he just go for the beer? x

How fabulous. I have expect a bull to leap out of the first photo and chase that man who is sauntering by.
