kiss and tell friday

Where are your grandparents from?

Mine were from Kiev. I often wonder how an American with ancestors from the Ukraine ended up in Spain...

P.S. Thank you for all your sweet comments. By the way, when I know that company is coming, I usually shove all the clutter under the beds. Ahhhh.... maybe that´s where the dog has been for the past two days...

P.S.S You can find the funky magnets here.

Happy weekend!

¡Dos besos!

My mum parents are from a little village called Aramaiona just 30 km far from Vitoria and my father parents from Aperregui just 20 km far from Vitoria. Just so near. Just from the place.

My family has stayed put in one place for quite awhile. On my dad's side of the family, my grandfather was born in Southern Wisconsin and my Grandmother was born in Salem, Il.
On my mother's side, my grandfather's family moved to Palestine, Illinois. in 1818 and most of them are still there. They were part of a group of a handful of Quaker families, who moved there together ( if you've ever visited the Newlin Mill in Chester County, PA., they are descendants of the Mill's original owner). After 1818, it seems like even if they tried to move away, they eventually returned to Palestine. My grandmother was born in a mining town in Colorado, but her mother was from Palestine, so that was where they moved, to be near family, after her father and brother died in the great flu epidemic of 1918. She and my grandfather were distant cousins.

My grandmother was from Arkansas and she was 1/2 Cherokee Indian. My grandfather was from Oklahoma. His family moved to California after the dust bowl. On my Father's side they are from England via Ireland.

On my mother's side from Munilla, a small (but lovely, or to me at least it seems lovely) village in Lower Rioja. My Paternal grandparents where from Puente Genil and Lucena, Cordoba. I love my Southern and Northern mix (having Gazpacho with chuletillas al sarmiento is quite cool ;-) I just wish I could dance Sevillanas as well as muy southern cousins (but my northern genes are too strong!!). Buen finde!

what a great question Jane. My maternal grandparents were from Poland and New York (via Romania). Paternal were from Romania and Poland. The grandfathers were in the Jewish mafia (they lived in the same building in Manhattan as Meyer Lansky) and one grandmother was a showgirl and the other in the yiddish theater. A slice of Americana right there!

My Grandparents on my mom's side are from down south. Georgia I believe.

(p.s. I use photoshop.. it's taken me 4 years to teach myself, and I still have so much to learn. But where I work at a photo lab, I get to use all the fun equipment.)

one set of gandparents were from Chicago
the other set was from Samoens France (alps region)
how my parents found each other is kind of a mystery :)

My grandparents were small coastal farmers in Norway. It was really the women running the farms back then, the men being out fishing most of the time. That has created independent free women in the north, not afraid of a workload. Love your blog, by the way.

O.K., nothing too exciting with where my grandparents are from... good 'ol Amar-i-cans, but ancestors are from England, Ireland, and Scotland. But the interesting thing with grandparents is that my grandfather could speak fluent German and was a POW in Germany. He swore that once he made it back to U.S. soil that he would never set foot in Germany again... kind of ironic that his granddaughter wound up living here.

All of my grandparents were from Italy. They all seemed to have come to the US about the same time -- around 1912. They all came from Abruzzi. Ironically, my husband's (he's a half breed) maternal grandfather came from Abruzzi, too.

missed this post along the way. interesting to see the replies from everyone! my moms real parents were from Ireland (her mom) and Illinois (irish/american indian dad) ... just what we know from stories and people who tracked her down as an adult - adoptive parents from Missouri. my dads parents were 2nd generation Irish and 4th generation Irish, born in Illinois. :) i guess i could more easily say ireland or midwest.
