kiss and tell

I used to have a gym teacher in school that would call your bottom, derriere, "fanny". Which cracks me up... What is your favorite word for bottom? Around here we like the Yiddish version "tush". As in, "You´re late, move your tush!"

Happy weekend!

¡Dos besos!

Love your blog!!

Here it is usually "butt" or "behind". My mother seems to think that "butt" is a bad word that should never be used by children, so I was never allowed to say it as a child, but that's the word I hear most of the children use here (including my son).
My husband prefers the word A**.

I am going with lollipop here, but tush we used over here too. that one sounds best I think. :) nice and clean.

I love the word hinney!

Hiney and tush are standard in this house.

Bum - sweet and simple! Happy weekend to you!

Well my kids call being naked "Buttcheeks Magee" which makes me laugh.

I think I was the one who originally said it, and now it's stuck.

Tush. Rear end. Behind. Boo-tay. Apple bottom. In Hawaii we said "okole," which I found funny. Hiney. Arse. The dog gets called, "Fluffybutt," I should be embarrassed to say...

shayndel said...

this is a funny topic.
Just came to say hi and missed you too!

While here...I was about to give the word in Japanese but when I went to confer it with my daughter she said you're not supposed to say it.
:)
happy weekend to you!

gluteus maximus. it maybe a mouthful, but it always brings out the giggles here.

Culo ! from my spanish grandma

My (jewish) husband says "tuchis" pronounced "took-is"

caitlin said...

Too funny! I usually call it my bee-hind.

Dana said...

Hey
I just blogged about the derriere as well. I grew up with that word -- it was common, not funny. We use hieney in our house -- or we did until my girl learned butt from older kids. Now she prefers that word! Great.

Mlle Paradis said...

Yes Jane you have a charming gift for getting everyone "involved". In Hawaii okole is a good allpurpose word for "down there" - as in your wet okole coming from the beach. I like "botty" which the English seem to use alot. " J Lo has a hotty botty". Why not?

DH has recently taken to calling it the "oxens" - short for buttocks. And my dad says "Bahookas."

My "go to" word for it though is just plain old "bottom"

Unknown said...

oh i didn't know that "tush" was yiddish?!
"bum" heheheh.

Keester! As in, you'd better move your keester. Not sure of the spelling, but it's an old-fashioned word, and I just like the sound of it.

Kiss and tell proves once again that Friday is fun for more than one reason!

Joanna Jenkins said...

I'm "tush" user too.

Have a great weekend.

Hmmmm.... don't think I've ever given it much thought. When I teach Luxe the muscle groups of the body she refuses to say buttocks. I don't blamer her. What an odd word...

Happy Weekend!

Bises et bon week-end Jane ; )

Here in Québec, we use the word foufoune which I find very cute. Especially des foufounes de bébé (baby's fanny). In France they use that word for a lady privy, not as cute. Another wors I like used both in France and Québec, is popotin, which designate the entire derrière. The real word is fesses...

Being English I just can't stand the word fanny but here we use Hinie or sometimes booty.
We had such a laugh the other day when we saw a pharmacy advertising H1N1 shots but it looked like HIHI shots.. the kids that it was cute!

alexandria said...

haha I love this post. Besides tush, bum and bottom make me giggle.

Elizabeth said...

When I was a chef in a professional kitchen, all the cooks, moving around with hot pans and such would yell out, "Watch your culo!" That always made me smile.

Traveling Mama said...

You are so cute! We are the "bum" or "tushy" type. Hope all is well with you!

Margret said...

mostly just bum. in Oz tradies have a reputation for needing to pull up their pants, so we have much more interesting terms for the little bit that often escapes out the top... coin slot, brickie's cleavage, plumber's smile (plumber's for short).

Juddie said...

In German: Po or Popo ... kinda cute I think.
We generally just say bum now too (in Australia, as in the UK, 'fanny' has a rather different meaning). My niece used to take great delight in saying 'bum!' as she thought it was so naughty, but she was disappointed by its brevity when she worked out that you only need 3 letters to spell/write it.

Unknown said...

I had to read all of these...what fun ;)
I can't say we have any good ones. But my husband likes to say that his butt is doing a happy dance. He does this to make me laugh. "I can't help it," he says, "It's just happy."

I have to agree with MODMom...buttocks is just simply an awkward thing to say!

i didn't know tush is a yiddish word. here in israel we use tusik for the kids. the -ik ending is usually when something is made cute or sweet, so i guess it's the hebrew-ification of tush.

(thinking about it, the -ik ending is also when you specify a person, like someone from a kibbutz is a kibbutznik.)

in denmark it's numse. which is ok and used also when talking to kids and in general.

Manya from manya-mykitchenstories.blogspot.com said...

In Greece the most mild way of saying instead of "kolo" which is the rude way...we use the word "popo" which somehow sounds sweeter...and sometimes it even looks smaller!!!!

denise said...

my boys say 'patootie'. :)

I'm cracking up!!! Great post!

Growing up I heard "rear" a lot

think of burger buns. Silly.
