15 century...
Vitoria is a "small" town that has grown a lot over the past 30 odd years. Unfortunately, with fast growth comes a lot of controversial decisions.... i.e. tearing down beautiful mansions to make way for apartment buildings. Vitoria is rich in history and some of its grand architecture dates back to the 14th century. (The town dates back to the 12th century.) You´d think I´d be used to it by now, but it still doesn´t cease to amaze me...
Next week´s theme is "spring"
I´ll be back tomorrow. I´m planning on making a big pot of coffee and then popping around for a visit. Save me some cookies ... :)

Like you, I doubt I'd ever get to used to that on a daily basis. And that is such a shame - can't they just build elsewhere? Sigh. Gorgeous photos, as usual!

this looks like a perfect little town to live in, I love the architecture in your photos, the first one reminds me of our university library in Heidelberg... good times!

I love the old building of Europe. We really have nothing like it here because our country has only been settled for 200 years old.
I think that's what's so fascinating to me buildings are older than the country I live in.

Beautiful buildings. Love the balconies. I love to see new architecture alongside old, but its such a shame when these beautiful buildings start to disappear.
I can just imagine the stroll through the buildings and enjoying the details in the architecture.

I would be inspired to write a novel if I were surrounded by 12th to 15th century architecture. I think my imagination would run away from me! It boggles my mind that an old and ancient mansion would be demolished to make room for an apartment building though! argh!
That would be awful! I realize people have to live somewhere, but another solution must be found. Beautiful photos.

Lovely architecture! Don't worry, we replaced a lot of our old architecture with 1960s concrete monstrosities!!
i would never get used to that architecture either, jane. my artist friends used to wax poetic and get all dreamy eyed when they talked about spain. i haven't been there yet. these are beautiful!!!

We have a place called Victoria too that has similar condos. However, here in my hometown there is a lot of space between buildings, and therefore seeing condos such as these makes me feel claustrophobic. sorry. I like the creativity of the structures though.
I love that you say it never ceases to amaze you. I have that here too. particularly now I don't live bang in the middle of the old centre any longer. every time I cycle along one of the older canals (more or less on a daily basis, really) I still have that.
here's to never losing the ability to admire in awed silence :)

My town is first mentioned also in 12th century.I have always the same feelings when walk in our tiny old town-think should be used to it but every day am amazed and discover something new... Feel am so lucky to live in such lovely place...even if we have dark cold winters ....
