la rioja

I made Jorge pull over to take pictures of the grape harvest in La Rioja. I´m not usually so in your face when taking pictures. And I was actually thinking, while shooting these, to get in and out really fast because I´m sure someone will not like what I´m doing. Turns out, they didn´t mind at all. We were even invited back to the family´s bodega to see how they unloaded the grapes AND we were sent home with 3 bottles of free wine. So here´s to getting out of your comfort zone... and free wine! :)

I´m still waiting on my film shots from Philadelphia. I know, just when you thought it was safe... there are even MORE pictures.... I´m worse than the neighbor that makes you sit through 2 hours of vacation slides... ;)

Have a great week!

Welcome back! Even though I am very much against smoking, I love the photo of the guy with the bucket and the cigarette. As for the photos from Philly, we can take it. Bring it on! :-)

I'm glad to hear I am not the only one who tries to sneak pictures and then turn tail as fast as I can for fear of upsetting people. It turned out to be quite a little adventure for you in the end.

These are fantastic! You get a sense of how much work it is too! Love how ballsy you were! And you got wine out of it as a reward! Woohoo!!!

Love it!! What a fab story - I know what you mean about taking pictures of people - I was in Madrid for 2 days (just got back and have to say I love the city - not so sure I'd love it in the middle of August, but 24 degrees in October was just perfect) and went to Mercado San Miguel and was wandering about taking picture of the stalls - half came out blurry because I was rushing...

Your photos are stunning - hope the rioja was good. I had some delicious white rioja in the market...

I can almost taste those deep purple grapes in my mouth. Reminds me of when I was little and my grandpa grew grapes in his back yard in California. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My parents in law lives in a small town close to Bilbao and we often go to La Rioja. It is great to visit the different vineyards and see how they take pride in making even the bottles, the wine and how they store it.
If you have not been to La Rioja Todonja (or something like that) I really reccomend it to experience the way the made wine "the old way", very different than Marques de Riscal- with is very modern.

I'm such a chicken. I would never do that. If I ever have images of strangers it's bc I've stolen a snap here and there while they were unaware. I'm such a cowardly lion.

Well done! Great photos AND you made some new friends AND ended up with some free local wine. not bad at all I would say, well worth the getting out of your comfort zone. You never know in life!

Love the atmosphere of hard work in nature and these tough guys in their element! The cigarette pic is my favourite, too, a kind of James-Dean-coolness.
I bet these men will enjoy their glass of wine even more after that! ;o)
