This tapa is very typical in the south of Spain, and is usually eaten for breakfast. The authentic tapa is made with a slice of toasted bread rubbed with a garlic clove, then rubbed with the cut side of half of a fresh tomato, then sprinkled with olive oil and salt. It is usually topped with a slice of jamón serrano. In my house, I usually just blitz a couple of tomatoes with garlic, salt and oil until it resembles a chunky puré. Then serve it on toasted bread that has been drizzled with more olive oil. ColaCao is optional...

Ok ! See you tomorrow... with your delicious tapas in mind ;)
Pan Tomaca in Italy is called "bruscheta", toasted bread; with or without tomato; but rubbed with garlic and sprinkled with olive oil. Yummy!
Tapas bars have become one of the newest fads here in Florida. They advertise heavily on the radio, so they can explain to the American audience what tapas are.
Your pan tomaca does sound a lot like my favorite bruscheta recipe, except I add fresh basil.
That looks so good, I may have to make bruscheta later.
c'est aussi une recette que je fais souvent l'été quand les tomates sont plus belles et que j'appelle également"bruscheta"
...mais le résultat est le même...c'est très très bon !
Hey Miss Jane this looks perfect and tasty to eat. Especially now with tomato coming in season around the corner. I will for sure be making this one. xoxo
mmmmmmmm
your tapas looks great!!!
I will try it!
See you tomorrow!!!
Beso!
Since I prefer a hearty breakfast to a sweet one, I imagine that I would thoroughly enjoy this. See you tomorrow.
oh yum yum ! I may have to make this at my house soon ! We had a yummy spanish dinner just last night. I posted the recipes on my cooking blog ...
Love tapas! I have a funny -- well slightly amusing story to tell you about our stay in Barcelona two years ago.
Yes, "Hell no" may well be cultural!
And you read ALL 65!! You are one hell of a woman!
this looks so nice! tomatoes make me happy :)
looking forward to tomorrow's corner views!
p.s.: thanks for your sweet comment, i'm feeling better today.
That looks really really good. I am going to have to make that.. maybe not for breakfast (as that usually entails a fiber one bar and diet coke) but for sure for an appetizer the next time I throw a party. Yum!
(I'm getting excited for tomorrows shopping trip around the world!)
~ahem!~ i'd recognize that Chilewich placemat anywhere..i love tapas! at first i thought you meant tapa which is a crunchy beef dish...
i see a food photography book deal in your future...
oh no, you made me so hungry now! where can i get pan tomaca in helsinki... ;)
Awesome photograph and now I'm hungry!
yumm - i could live on those!
Like bruscheta. . . which would be quite odd in the morning.
Good stuff, nonetheless.
huuum... it looks so delicious jane and i don't even like tomatoes. i'm on diet but i'll try to make it anyway!!
:)

I really, really, really would love that pan tumaca, right now.
Jane, you are a disaster for my dieting! Now I have to raid my fridge! ;)
Big hugs, Jeannette
The tapa looks yummy :)
I found your blog after seeing other people's corner views this week and think it's such a lovely idea! I'd love to join in tomorrow :)
Hi Jane, I seem to have been bumped from the updated list. Don't you like me anymore? lol
We love these too!! Though not for breakfast... I sometimes add fresh basil, little mozzarella cubes and fresh anchovies... more Italian style, I guess... but yes, with lots of olive oil, garlic and tomatoes. Yum! Getting hungry all of the sudden!
Me encanta el pan tumaca. Tambien es tipico de Cataluña, no? Que curioso, redescubrir España tal y como lo ve un extranjero viviendo alli! Me gusta tu blog!
oh! this is catalan!
it's called "pa amb tomàquet" and yes, we eat it almost every morning for breakfast. (I'm catalan) ;)
