kiss and tell

What is the most recent thing you´ve learned?

I´ve learned not to ask my teenagers about their day. Instead I wait... and usually within minutes they start talking... and talking... and talking... Oh the things I could tell you...

Stay warm this weekend!

¡Dos besos muy gordos!

P.S. Hey cacahuete- Blogger keeps sending back my comments. Just thought you should know...

that no one behaves the way you expect them to. that rather than losing my temper, everything works so much better when i look out of the window, and focus on the waves in the sea outside when i feel like screaming.

it's almost unbelievable to me, but i learned the headstand this year. 35 years without standing on my head and with 36, finally i did. the world feels like upside down ;-) and i think i've to learn a lot about teenagers too. the twins are now 13 years old - a lot of discussions here. happy weekend dear jane. and a kiss*

The last thing I learned is something I should have known for so long : put repellent on the boys so their legs wouldn't be infected as they are now...stupid me !

Beijinhos from here.

I learned a lot this week, but here are 3 of the things:

1. I had to help a 13 year old with a report about two animals who live in the boreal forest, so I now know quite a bit about red squirrels (such as, that sister squirrels will have slumber parties on cold nights as a way of keeping warm).

2. Glue dots are not a good way to have children put together Christmas crafts. The glue dots will stick to your hands and the table ( and one in my hair), but they will not hold the crafts together.

3. That there is nothing we can do to strengthen my son's right eye. He has always had a spot of scar tissue in his right eye, but before the eye Dr. appointment yesterday, I had been told that putting a patch over his good eye, would help the weak one get stronger. Yesterday, I was told there was nothing that could be done, that the scar was in such a place that he would always be blind in that eye and that he had very little depth perception, as a result.

I learned that communication is almost impossible..
words and the meaning of words differ in every part of the world, country, group, with every person, even if you use the same language.
The meaning of words even differ in what kind of mood someone is. (and don't start me talking about body language, internet of blog language..)

( and yes.. never ask a teenager how his or her day was the minute they step in, let them come home first. :)some need up to an hour for that. )

I learned yesterday that when making conserves with oranges to take much of the pith off the orange EVEN if the recipe says to simply finely chop the unpeeled oranges. After a whole bath (documented yesterday), I could not eat what I had spent an hour making! Do you like orange peel, even if it's a bit pithy tasting? I'm trying to give it away!

I've learned that my friends are even more awesome than I thought. And that I have more friends than i knew.

What a great thing to learn about your teenagers. And what a wise parent you are to adjust and respect the integrity of your young ones. Respect!

I have had to learn, after being interviewed in a paper here recently (on of those papers that allowed on line comments on the story), that when people are being anonymous they can say not very nice things.

Conversely in most of this blogosphere, people are at their best, and others could and should learn from them.

Hope your Xmas preparations are going well. xoxo

I think that what I'm learning right now is how not to fear for my one daughter's life every minute of every day. I never knew how fragile was a life before I was a mother. I need to discover a new balance between nurturing and protectiveness and allowing a child their freedom. We all live a short, brilliant life. None of us is ever "safe". I am trying to learn how to let my child live, as I did, without fear.

I learnt that living blind and behind the truth is worse than knowing the truth and living blue.

I wish my parents asked me how my day went and I could tell them everything.

A few weeks ago I started learning Esperanto. Sounds not very attractive, but expressive, neutral and really easy to comprehend. For example, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year =Gajan Kristnaskon & Bonan Novjaron

Highly advised!

I would say that I just re-learned how nice it is with a woolen hat when it is below zero C ...

Nihal: wow esperanto - very interesting!

I have learned:
To speak Italian after I turned 40
Control is overrated.
I have no control over so many things and I am at peace with that.
I learned how to make great delicious pizza on the BBQ.
Kale is a wonder drug. Eat as much kale as you can.
Life is really short. Enjoy.
I learned and saw great compassion from by 15 and 17 year old boys

I learn every day so much... but I also forget sometimes that I've learned!

Last thing I learned is that in trying to save a buck and buying my kiddies snow boots too big, they will fly off while going down the hill on the sled, which will lead to a melt down on their part. Snow is pretty freezing when your boot flies off with your sock still in it, huh?

I learned that a 15+ hour plane ride is waaaaay to long. (Tel Aviv to Los Angeles) I will never do that non-stop again.

Hope you are enjoying the holiday season.

Merry Christmas,

That's a tough one. I think that more often than not, we just ingest life lessons without even realizing it. But I'll take a stab at it. Maybe something about myself. That I'm far more selfish than I'd like to admit. I recognize this in other people all the time, but now I wonder if that's just because "it takes one to know one..."

Rocio said...

When things do not go acording to plan, breathe out and think of the positive things that will result from the new situation. Even if your Christmas plans have just been completely turned upside down!!.

well, i've learned that every child will be potty trained when he or she damn well pleases and it has very little to do with the parent. my first was a model child, trained early and almost overnight, so i got all smug and rolled my eyes at anyone who moaned and kvetched about their preschooler putting them through potty training hell.

then i got child number 2!

I knew a girl who was blue. So she painted her world pink. xoxo
